Fire Destroys Apartment Units In Lakeland, Tenants Homeless

LAKELAND, FL — Four residents who live in a Lakeland apartment building were displaced when their units caught fire early Monday morning, the Lakeland Fire Department said. The fire started just before 7:28 a.m., according to investigators. Intense flames spread across the roof causing thick, heavy smoke. Before Lakeland Fire Rescue arrived, the tenants were able to escape the building, 2626 N. Florida Ave., Lakeland, safely. Unfortunately, the four apartments that caught on fire were completely ruined, according to fire officials. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Authorities said the American Red Cross is assisting with housing. Lakeland Fire Rescue put out a strong fire Monday morning at an apartment complex, 2626 N. Florida Ave., Lakeland. Four tenants in the building will need assistance finding new homes after their units were destroyed. (Lakeland Fire Rescue)
