WOODBRIDGE, VA — A man died on Friday after his car crashed into a tree near Cardinal Drive in Woodbridge, according to the Prince William County Police Department. Authorities identified the man as Paul Charles Camacho, a 21-year-old Woodbridge resident.
Officers initially responded to the area near Cardinal Drive and Canary Court around 9 p.m. on Friday, May 14. A 2005 Scion XA had left the roadway and struck a tree, according to the police report.
The police department's Crash Investigation Unit is still investigating, but they released their preliminary findings in a report on Saturday morning. Investigators said that the Scion was travelling northbound on Cardinal Drive when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Police said that the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. The driver, who was later identified as Camacho, was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the police department. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.
Authorities said that Camacho was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Investigators believe that speed may have been a factor in the crash.
This is the second fatal crash on Cardinal Drive in the past 13 months. On May 3, 2020, a pedestrian was killed while working her dog in the area. The pedestrian, Deborah Talbot, was struck by a Lexus sedan near the intersection of Cardinal Drive and Swan Way.
