BROCKTON, MA — A Brockton man has been accused of illegally possessing a loaded gun and attempting to use it for assault, said Brockton Police Department in a news release Friday.
Officers responded to 26 spring street late Thursday afternoon after receiving a gunfire alert and multiple resident reports of a shooting. After investigating the area and viewing surveillance footage, they were led to a black Chevy Malibu parked at 8 White Avenue.
Police saw the gunman, identified as 21-year-old Nashawn Pettaway, leave White Avenue in a different car than the one used in the shooting, said police. They pulled the vehicle over at Belmont Street and Warren Avenue.
During the investigation, police seized a loaded nine-millimeter Glock from Petteway's waist and seven 9mm shell casings. According to police, Petteway does not have a license to carry.
Petteway was scheduled to appear in court Friday, May 14, on firearm and assault charges.
