Anne Arundel County Police Officers Injured During Weekend Chase

GLEN BURNIE, MD — Shortly after 7 a.m. Saturday morning, Anne Arundel County police officers arrived at a home in the 8000 block of Ritchie Highway where they found two strangers asleep inside a black 2010 Nissan Maxima parked in the resident's driveway. Officers woke up the driver and while speaking with the driver, the officer spied a handgun. The driver then took off and officers pursued, according to a police report. Multiple Anne Arundel County police officers along with Maryland State Police responded to the area of Robinson Road and Ritchie Highway in Severna Park to assist with the chase. The vehicle briefly stopped and officers attempted to de-escalate and reason with the driver before the suspect pulled away trying to flee again, injuring two officers, the department reported. A short distance away, the suspect's vehicle became inoperable. Both suspects took off on foot and were apprehended. During the incident, a firearm was thrown from the suspect's vehicle, which was recovered on the side of Ritchie Highway. The two injured officers were taken to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries. One officer was admitted and the other received treatment and was released.
