TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Toms River man was seriously injured when his vehicle flipped in a three-vehicle crash Sunday when another driver ran a red light, Toms River police said. Jeffrey Edgar, 51, was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, after he was extricated from his Honda HR-V, said Jillian Messina, media relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department. Edgar was driving north on Vaughn Avenue shortly after 12:30 p.m. Sunday when his Honda was hit by a vehicle driven by Jeffrey Loffredo, 25, of Toms River, who was driving west on Bay Avenue and failed to stop for a red traffic signal, Messina said. The impact caused Edgar's vehicle to flip onto its side and it then collided with a Chevy Silverado driven by Donald O'Brien, 51, of Toms River, she said. O'Brien was stopped for the red light, she said. Edgar had to be extricated from his Honda by the Toms River and East Dover fire companies. Toms River EMS and Robert Wood Johnson MICU rendered treatment. Edgar was taken by EMS to Skyview Park Landing Zone, and from there was flown to Jersey Shore Medical Center, Messina said. Loffredo was cited with failure to obey a traffic signal, expired driver's license, failure to possess a registration, and failure to possess an insurance card. There was no sign of driver impairment, Messinas. The accident is being investigated by Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Ryan Fitzgerald.
