Press release from the City of Waukee: May 15, 2021 The American Public Works Association celebrates National Public Works Week each year as a way to recognize the role public works professionals play in keeping communities safe and functioning smoothly. The objective is designed to increase public awareness of worker contributions as well as to enlighten the public about the duties, practices and goals of public works professionals. The 2021 Public Works Week theme is "Stronger Together" which challenges people to think about the role public works plays in creating a great place to live. The 37 full-time Waukee Public Works Department employees maintain and improve the systems and services vital to the Waukee community's health, safety and comfort. Last year, that team (plus some seasonal staff) cleaned 148,000 feet of sewer mains, installed 405 gas services, flushed 522 fire hydrants, completed 800 repair orders, filled over 11,000 Iowa One Call locate tickets, installed 49,084 feet of gas main, poured 50 concrete patches, and the list goes on and on.
