Description
Volunteer with Detroit Audubon to clean up Lifsitz Park as we restore this greenspace for birds, pollinators, and people! Join Detroit Audubon to clean up Lifsitz Park in preparation for park renovations including a wildflower meadow to support birds, a woodchip walking path, and half basketball court. We will be spreading woodchips on the new pathway, picking up trash, clearing the sidewalk pathways, and trimming back invasive shrubs. We will have some tools available, but we appreciate folks bringing tools if possible. Shovels, rakes, loppers, and work gloves will be most helpful. We will need one or two more wheelbarrows for moving mulch. If you are able to bring a wheelbarrow please let us know in the Eventbrite order form. We will have sanitizing products, extra masks, plastic gloves, snacks, and water. A waiver for Covid-19 is included in the registration process. Attendees will not be required to wear a mask but we encourage you to wear one if preferred. We ask that if you have been exposed to anyone with Covid-19 or are feeling unwell to please stay home. ***After registering, you will receive Detroit Audubon's bi-monthly e-newsletter, Flyway Express. You may unsubscribe at any time. *** More Info about Lifsitz and the Detroit Bird City Project: Lifsitz Park is one of five Detroit Bird City Parks. Detroit Audubon and the Detroit City Parks and Recreation Department established the Detroit Bird City project to restore unmaintained city parks, and their neighboring vacant lots, into greenspace for the local community and wildlife. The previously unused spaces will be transformed into wildflower meadows, a habitat essential for migratory birds and pollinators, with components to welcome and engage residents. Each park will undergo: 1.) community engagement and planning 2.) restoration through the planting of native species 3.) installation of signs, benches, and pathways and 4.) educational programs and conservation events. Detroit Bird City parks will provide important habitat for wildlife and a welcoming community greenspace that requires minimal maintenance from the city. It is our intention that these parks will serve as a potential model for sustainable use of vacant property for Detroit and many other post-industrial cities throughout the USA.
