Portillo's Employee Hospitalized In Fight With Customer: Police

OSWEGO, IL — Oswego police said an 18-year-old man was hospitalized after a report of a fight between a Portillo's employee and a customer in the drive-thru of the Oswego restaurant on Route 34. Officers were called to the restaurant around 11:50 a.m. to find that the 18-year-old Portillo's worker had been taken to an area hospital by paramedics before police were able to speak with him, police said. The customer, a 48-year-old man, voluntarily went to the Oswego Police Department to be interviewed by officers. Police have requested to interview the Portillo's employee as soon as he is able, according to a news release from the Oswego Police Department. Police said they have requested surveillance video of the incident and the names of employees who witnessed the reported fight, had not received either as of Monday morning. By Monday afternoon, police said they had received the employees' names and continues to interview witnesses. Investigators have also scheduled an interview with the employee who was hospitalized, and are working to obtain audio and video footage of the incident. "The Oswego Police Department is committed to fully investigating this incident and ensuring we obtain the facts surrounding this incident," police said in a statement Monday. "We appreciate the public's patience while we complete the investigation, and we want to assure the public we are allocating all necessary resources to this matter. All witnesses and involved parties must be interviewed to obtain a clear understanding of what occurred." Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact police at 630-551-7300. "Oswego Police are aware that a video on Facebook exists appearing to be from a cell phone at the scene," police said.
