Joliet Police Officer Punched In Chest On Broadway St: Cops

JOLIET, IL — A 44-year-old Joliet man who lives in the 200 block of North Broadway Street remains in the Will County Jail facing four criminal charges in connection with his confrontation with a Joliet police officer, court documents show. Joliet police hauled away Benjamin E. Bailey in handcuffs and delivered him to the Will County Jail where his bail remains at $150,000. The Will County State's Attorney's staff has charged Bailey with two counts of resisting a peace officer and two counts of aggravated battery. The incident involving Bailey's arrest happened at his apartment building around 3:40 p.m. last Thursday. "Officers determined that Bailey was involved in a verbal altercation with another at the residence," Joliet police reports state. "Officers learned that Bailey held an active Will County arrest warrant for failing to appear in court to face previous aggravated battery charges." When officers tried to take Bailey into custody related to the warrant for his arrest, "Bailey pulled away and struck an officer in the chest," Joliet police noted. Bailey ran from his apartment building but other Joliet police chased after him and captured him in the 200 block of North Hickory Street, police said. Bailey has remained in Will County's Jail since around 5:30 p.m. on May 13, unable to post 10 percent of his bail, jail records state.
