FREMONT, CA — Fremont Police used a Community Assessment Treatment Team Clinician to resolve an emergency situation involving a man who had a mental health crisis. The incident came to light around 4:30 p.m. Sunday when police messaged the community that Lowry Road was closed between Falcon Drive and Corchero Way. Police added that they were using "our partnering agencies to seek a safe resolution." Shortly before 6 p.m., police said that the situation had been peacefully resolved and Lowry was open. The man at the heart of the incident "is now receiving medical care." The use of mental health professionals to deal with residents suffering a mental health crisis has been a hot button issue since last year, as following unrest after the death of George Floyd. A movement to defund police and use the savings on mental health advocates gained traction with many protesters. Community Assessment Treatment Team Clinicians are stationed at deployment hubs throughout Alameda County, including one in Fremont.
