ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY — There was a major cleanup for Hempstead Lake Park and the surrounding RVC Complex. County Executive Laura Curran joined State Senator Todd Kaminsky and Assemblywoman Judy Griffin in assembling dozens of residents and volunteers to assist.
Students from Wilson Elementary and various Boy Scout troops collected more than 75 bags of garbage Sunday.
"Nassau County has over 6,000 acres of green space, and community cleanups like these help us all do our part to keep Nassau green and clean," Nassau County Executive Laura Curran said in a statement.
The weekend event was organized for Earth Day. The lawmakers partnered with community groups, including Central Synagogue, the Rockville Centre Chamber of Commerce and the RVC Conservancy.
"It is our collective responsibility to ensure that the beauty and cleanliness of our public spaces are maintained for our community to enjoy," Kaminsky said in a statement. "I was proud to see so many of our Rockville Centre neighbors take time out of their busy weekend to make a tangible difference in the Village."
