DEKALB COUNTY, GA — DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Services facilities and amenities will start reopening as early as Friday for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began last March. DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond made the announcement Monday. Park users will be able to use the athletic fields, sports facilities, playgrounds, picnic shelters and outdoor basketball courts starting Friday. County pools and splashpads will reopen Saturday, June 12, and will require pre-registration prior to entry. Capacity will be limited to 35 swimmers at most facilities. "I know everyone is eager to get back to participating in recreational activities, so we are thrilled to provide these services," Thurmond said in a news release. "The parks department is looking forward to providing opportunities for the public to explore, engage and connect with our nationally-accredited park system once again." The Porter Sanford III Performing Arts and Community Center will also reopen Monday, June 14 at a reduced capacity in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for indoor events. Additionally, DeKalb County's Camp Superstars, a summer day camp for children age 5-15, will resume this summer on June 14 as well. The camp runs from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday at a charge of $66 per week, county officials said. Breakfast and lunch are provided for campers.
