Test Administrator/Aptitude Consultant
Jobs
347 Beacon Street near Fairfield, Boston MA
Description
Local, non-profit aptitude testing center in Boston's Back Bay that is part of a national career guidance organization has a full-time position available for a candidate with at least a bachelor’s degree (no specific major) who: • has good verbal and written communication skills (liberal arts background helpful) • enjoys working with people on an individual basis • is conscientious (punctual, responsible, etc.) • can handle paperwork quickly and accurately • can work with a certain degree of independence and initiative We are intellectually curious generalists who administer and interpret aptitude tests to individuals seeking understanding of personal abilities as an aid in career or educational planning. We enjoy being informed about the world of work and its many opportunities. Though we are not psychologists, this could be a fulfilling position for someone who is interested in coaching, psychology, sociology, education, or the social sciences in general. It combines elements of counseling and consulting with test administration to help others learn more about themselves. Someone with at least some work experience preferred. We cannot consider any applicants without at least a bachelor's degree. The position requires accurate attention to detail in scoring and timing tests in addition to articulate explanation of career-oriented information. We also must handle our own office support work: entering data, scheduling appointments, preparing materials, responding to telephone and e-mail inquiries, and more. This is a very small work environment (you would be working with the current director and one other aptitude consultant), but you will be meeting new clients nearly every day. Though we are a nonprofit research institute, this is not a charity or organization that serves indigent populations. Our clients are teenagers (14 or older) and adults who pay for the service. This is not an administrative or remote position. The test administration aspect of the job requires full use of your hands for repetitive tasks like laying out testing pieces, etc. Our hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday, leaving evenings and weekends free for life outside work: family, friends, education, gigs, hobbies, etc. There are no last minute all-night or even after normal work hours obligations, although some weekdays around school holidays are mandatory. There is no sales or other solicitation work required. Our clients, usually word-of-mouth referrals, come to us because they want to learn more about themselves. We are hoping to increase outreach, so comfort with public speaking and presentations is desirable. The ideal candidate would enjoy helping others understand themselves using objective measurements in a positive way and would enjoy learning about and discussing individual abilities in relation to education and careers. Our focus may be pivoting in the future to provide additional services related to more traditional career counseling, so an interest in that field or college counseling is a plus (although direct experience is not required). Taking over the directorship of the office could be an eventual possibility for the right candidate. We provide full training of the specifics of our testing program and its administration. You bring a broad background of interests and knowledge evidenced by a bachelor's degree, strong English vocabulary, and a measurable ability to process clerical work quickly. We offer a 403B retirement plan, PTO (vacation, sick, personal days), and health/dental coverage. Please no calls, emails, or office visits. We will only consider candidates who apply through this link, Founded in 1922, The Johnson O’Connor Research Foundation is dedicated to helping people of all ages (from high school to retirement) discover work that is satisfying and rewarding. You can find more information about the Foundation and aptitude testing on our website: jocrf.org.
