DRANESVILLE, VA — Detectives from the Fairfax County Police Department are asking the public's help in locating the driver of a vehicle involved in a Sunday morning hit-and-run that left a 43-year-old McLean dead, according to a police blog post. Officers from the Reston District Station responded around 5:21 a.m., for the report of a pedestrian being hit by several vehicles near the intersection of Leesburg Pike and Redberry Court in Great Falls. They found Allen Romero, 43, of McLean in the center of the eastbound lane of Leesburg Pike. After examining Romero, rescue personnel pronounced him dead on the scene. Following a preliminary investigation, the Crash Reconstruction Unit determined Romero was in the process of crossing eastbound Leesburg Pike when he was hit by a 2011-2015 Ford Fusion. Other vehicles struck Romero, one of which stayed at the scene. The driver of the Ford Fusion, which was the initial striking vehicle, did not stop. Police were able to determine the make and model of the Ford Fusion by identifying the driver's side mirror, which was found at the scene. Detectives are investigating whether speed or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash. Police ask anyone with information about this incident or knowledge about the driver or vehicle that left the scene of the crash to contact FCPD's Crash Reconstruction Unit at 703-280-0543. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Solvers by phone – 1-866-411-TIPS (866-411-8477), by text – Type "FCCS" plus tip to 847411, or online. Anyone who submits an anonymous tip that leads to an arrest is eligible for cash rewards of up to $1,000. Romero is the fifth pedestrian killed in a crash in Fairfax County in 2021. Detectives are looking for a 2011-2015 black Ford Fusion with damage to the driver's side mirror. Preliminarily, the victim has been identified as an adult man. Anyone with info is asked to call detectives at 703-280-0543.
