Description

Litha also known as Middsummer is Wiccan and pagan celebration of the longest day of the year. Witches believe this is the time that Holly King battles the Oak King for control of the throne watching over the darker half of the year. Colors used in ritual magick such as candle, tool, and regalia selection include those geared towards their resemblance of the Sun and representative of abundance and prosperity. These colors are blue, green, red, and gold. Colors that match the natural world and the witches will most likely be collecting flowers from their gardens and land to match these. This is an easy to do activity from home if you have plants growing. As for socially distanced activities solo or family walks among wildlife or a ferry ride to connect with the land, air, soil, fire (sun light), and spirit are in order. Typically the witches of San Francisco gather at their traditional sites on the beach or in the park to celebrate in a large circle the passing season. One can do this on his, her, or their own. One can also write ones petitions on paper for the coming season or the season past and reflect on ones desires. Litha is a time of visiting or using Oak, Laurel, Holly, Linden, or Elder trees in ones magickal doings. There are plenty of Oak trees in the Bay Area to see and probably some of the others as well. This is a great alternative to large in person gatherings. Usually there is a sacred bonfire on Ocean Beach where one can burn old wooden charms no longer needed and holding on to bad memories in addition to petitions charged with the power of fire. This year place the items in a box for safekeeping until the ritual returns. Conversely use your barbecue or fire pit if you have one. Many will be doing divination online for someone with their runes or tarot cards and most rituals will go online. Reclaiming will probably have something going on. Lastly anyone can enjoy marking this special day with observing the sunrise!
