Description

Racial Reconciliation Conversation In the church, it often feels like there’s a tension, a debate: is it more important to live the gospel or do we simply preach the gospel? It’s as if we’re being forced to decide between what came first, the chicken or the egg. And this debate seems to rear its ugly head time and time again when it comes to the issue of race in the world, and in the church. And why is it that we have something called a “Black Church” or an “Asian Church” or a “White Church” or a “Hispanic Church”, when Jesus is building his Church? Jesus doesn’t call us to choose between living and preaching the gospel; he calls us to do both. Could it be that as we’ve dug in our heals we’ve confused the world about our witness? More to the point, could it be that when it comes to race; we, you, me, have fought harder for worldly division than gospel reconciliation? Could it be that we really stand firm in our culture more than we stand firm in the gospel? Brothers, there’s got to be a better way. In reality, Jesus has torn down the dividing wall of hostility between races. Let’s strive to live in light of that reality. The gospel doesn’t call us to live in acrimony and division, it calls us to live in peace and unity, it calls us to repent and believe. The gospel provides a way for us to be unique as individuals yet unified by the blood of Christ. Different faces. Different colors. Different races. One faith. One Lord. One beautiful church. A mosaic… Join us Monday, June 14 at 11:00 a.m. for “The Mosaic Gospel: A Conversation about Race and the Church” Lunch will be provided.
