Description
WALTHAM, MA — Nearly two dozen people have indicated they plan to run for office, just two weeks after nomination papers for City Council and School Committee candidates became available. Welcome to the start of election season.
Every two years, the entire 15-member Waltham City Council is up for reelection. There are nine ward councilors and six at large councilor seats. Candidates must fill out the nomination forms with 50 signatures from residents and return them to the clerk's office by June 25. The election season usually doesn't heat up until the summer ahead of a preliminary election in September.
If everyone who picked up the nomination forms returns the required amount of signatures and makes it onto the ballot, there will be contested races in Ward 2, 5, and 9.
Two city councilors have not indicated if they plan to run again, including Kristine Mackin, of Ward 7 and at-large councilor Paul Brasco.
