Description

Wrigley is an 8-9 year old Labradoodle who weighs approximately 37 lbs. He has a non-shedding coat that is an option for those who have allergies or simply want a dog who doesn't shed. This sweet guy is super smart, super fun, and super loving. He absolutely adores people; everyone he meets is his new best friend! He is good with dogs, kids, and is housetrained. Wrigley is an outgoing, energetic dog who likes to play fetch, gladly dropping his toy to chase it again. He enjoys playing tug of war and taking apart squeaky toys if the mood hits him. He will play until he is exhausted, then hang out quietly with any member of the family. He responds well to food and training and likes carrots and all training treats his foster family has tried. Wrigley is potty trained, loves hanging out with his people, and will jump up on a couch or bed if given a chance. Prior to coming to DPS, it seems that Wrigley was not given many boundaries. He jumps on people when excited (when they first come in the house), is underfoot when he smells people food, and will usually bark when he hears noises outside. He seems to want to protect the family at home and on walks, as he pulls the leash and barks at other dogs. His foster family is working to train him daily, to set boundaries, walk on a leash, and his adoptive family will need to continue this work. Wrigley is a marvelous dog, but he will benefit from ongoing training and learning boundaries. Wrigley is housetrained. It’s clear that he hasn’t spent much time in a crate; however, when he was put in a crate for transportation, he was fine. His foster family has worked with Wrigley to use the doggy door, but instead, he opens the screen door to let himself out, or he will follow the other dog in the house in/out of the doggy door. He has learned to use the bell when he wants to go out, but often goes outside and for a very short time before he wants to come back in unless a person goes with him. Wrigley doesn’t dig in the yard, but he will chew toys. He quickly gets excited and barks when he hears noises outside, including other dogs barking. He will bark for a short time when he hears someone coming. Wrigley would do well with a home with people who like to play with him, but set boundaries and put in the time to work with him on his barking and leash reactivity. It would be nice if the adoptive family had a backyard, since he has trouble with dogs on walks. Wrigley would fit well in many homes, though it would be better if the person/family who adopts him is home most or all of the time, as he doesn’t like to be left alone. Wrigley is only an option for a home that has had a dog previously as an adult. A home that has dealt with leash reactivity is a bonus. If there are children they need to be over the age of 10.
