Whether you and your kiddos are long-time bike enthusiasts or you're just starting to teach your child how to pedal, we've got resources and a great booklist to encourage you to get out there and cycle! National Bike Month The League of American Bicyclists has lots of fun challenges you can try throughout the month of May, as well as great of "Smart Cycling" tips. Love to Ride Looking for another challenge to motivate you to bike more this month? Check out Love to Ride's Bike Month challenge. Bike Helmets One of the most important parts of bicycle safety is wearing a properly-fitting helmet. You can DIY using guidance from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Or most cycling shops will provide free fittings to help make sure a helmet you purchase is the perfect size for you or your child. If the cost of a helmet is prohibitive, many pediatrician offices offer free or reduced-cost helmets, and residents of the City of Boston can get a helmet for $5 from the Boston Public Health Commission. Bike Safety Make sure that you and your family are biking as safely as possible by checking out some of the resources provided by the Federal Highway Administration. Looking for more resources? Interested in some stories to get kids excited about riding their bikes? Check out our booklist! This press release was produced by the Winchester Public Library.
