Press release from the Atlanta Police Department: 05/14/2021 211340188 Preliminary Information: On 5/14/21, around 1:00 am, officers were alerted to suspect vehicle appeared to be involved in a carjacking/kidnapping traveling near the intersection of Boulevard and Edgewood. The suspect vehicle was described as a 2010 silver Honda Fit traveling Eastbound on I-20 near Hamilton E. Holmes with a kidnapped victim on board. Zone 5 units spotted the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop but vehicle eluded officers. A short time later Zone 6 units spotted the vehicle again and attempted to pull the vehicle over. The vehicle continued fleeing until it lost control and struck a fire hydrant at the intersection of Boulevard and Edgewood Ave. The suspect exited the vehicle and fled from officers on foot. Multiple units including K-9 canvassed the area but was unable to locate the suspect. The victim and passenger of the vehicle remained on scene and was uninjured during the incident. Officers on scene recovered a shotgun from the rear seat of the vehicle. Preliminary investigation indicates the victim is an Uber Driver and had just dropped off a passenger near 2595 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd when a male suspect approached her vehicle and asked for a ride to the train station. The victim (identified as Leslie Chase DOB 10/89) stated she allowed the suspect to enter the vehicle. Once inside the vehicle the suspect revealed a firearm and demanded the victim to comply with his demands. The victim complied and dialed 911 to leave an open line with dispatch until units were able to track her coordinances in the vehicle. Investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigation continues.
