The New Paltz-based quintet The Sweet Clementines is led by songwriter/guitarist and music critic John Burdick. Landing somewhere between accidental late Romantic chamber music and an eccentric take on classic guitar pop, the Sweet Clementines approach the rock arts with vibraphones, violins, sophisticated vocal counterpoint, and electronic accents, all in support of a huge body of smart and elegant songs. Four years after though it were the kiss of death raised the band’s profile in upstate New York, earning critical raves, extensive airplay on independent radio, and prestige bookings throughout the region, the Sweet Clementines released the more mean-spirited and rocking post-prog record Lake Victoria in 2016, prompting Chronogram to remark, “that the Sweet Clementines are still not signed to a national record label is just criminal.” In 2018, The Sweet Clementines threw their lot in with the Kingston-based SubFamily Records, releasing the zippy single “Bobby Murcer” on the collective’s debut compilation SFR 101. The Sweet Clementines are currently finishing an EP. Empty, Zat, Ruby, Pole Cat, and The Dick is scheduled for fall 2021 release, springtime in the post-Covid world. The Sweet Clementines are guitarist John Burdick (guitar, vocals), Jason Sarubbi (bass, vocals), Matt Senzatimore (drums) Marianne Tasick (violin, vocals, keyboards), and Paul Carroll (vibraphone, keyboards). https://subfamilyrecords.bandcamp.com/track/bobby-murcer The Sweet Clementines With Special Guest Tracy Bonham
