Jazz Improv~Then and Now: Jim Hunter Jazz Trio at La Grua Center Jim Hunter Jazz Trio Steve Marien, tenor & alto sax Jim Hunter, bass Rufus "Baby Grand" Davis, 1930 Mason & Hamlin grand Jazz Improv – Then & Now What a Friend We Have in Jesus On a Clear Day You Can See Forever Donna Lee Eroica (after Beethoven's Third) Take the A-Train 'Round Midnight St. Thomas (after a trad. Bahamian folksong) Struttin' With Some Barbecue Get a Kick Out of You Wish Tchaik 2-4 (after Tchaikovsky's Fourth) Peace Joyful (James Hunter, after Alicia Keys) The Jim Hunter Jazz Trio is no stranger to the stages, clubs, and exploratively minded venues of our region. They bring passion to contemporary music making and to the great art of jazz improv. They also play with keen awareness of jazz, gospel, historical popular music, and even – rare in today's jazz world – folk and classical tunes that resonate powerfully for us all. (This will also be the first performance on La Grua's newly refurbished 1930 Mason & Hamlin, an evocative, lyrical piano of great beauty.) Important info: Audience members must be masked throughout, and some social distancing protocols will be in place, as we continue to observe state and federal recommendations.
