A Fundraiser for the Future of the International Women's Baseball Center About the International Women's Baseball Center The International Women’s Baseball Center was created in February 2013 when a group of friends got together in Sunset Beach, California. Over pizza and beer, we discussed what seemed a glaring absence in the world of sports: a home for women’s baseball. There should be Hall of Fame, we said, and a museum. And what about an educational center, and a place where girls and women can come to play, coach, umpire, and learn about and enjoy the game? Out of that meeting came the IWBC and a determination to challenge the myth that girls and women don’t play baseball. Rockford, Illinois became the logical place to put our mission into action. The city has a storied history in sports--especially in baseball. From Albert Spalding and Ross Barnes to the Forest City Nine, from the Rockford Peaches to the Rockford Starfires, Rockford has been and continues to be the “Cradle of Baseball.” Whether we are talking about the economic impact on the region or the emotional impact on that kid who has little else, Rockford knows sports matter. Once we came to Rockford, met the people, witnessed their dedication to sports history and learned of their mission of Reclaiming First we knew the IWBC had a home. We are now launching a Capital Campaign to make the Center's home a Reality in Rockford. Read more here.
