Learn about the National Disaster Medical System (NMDS) and discuss patient movement and distribution during national disasters. The Veterans Healthcare Administration - Office of Emergency Management (VHA OEM) is pleased to announce the 2021 Reno Rising Tabletop Exercise (TTX), which aims to provide the participants an opportunity to collectively: Learn about the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS),Discuss its integration into the Reno metropolitan area healthcare response network,Identify gaps, redundancies, developmental activities, and best practices to be used to improve and bolster local NDMS patient reception operations,Strengthen interagency coordination among all Reno NDMS partners, andCreate the framework to be used for the 2022 Reno Rising Functional and Full-Scale Exercises.This communitywide seminar and tabletop exercise will consist of an informational session covering what NDMS is, its operational components, its member agencies and their responsibilities, and the linkages to the Reno metropolitan area healthcare response network. Participants will then be guided through a discussion centered around key issues associated with receiving and distributing patients locally for definitive care from distant disaster-affected areas. This event is intended for agencies involved in the healthcare response to incidents requiring the national movement of patients. Fire/EMS, hospitals, long term care, rehabilitation, hospices and other healthcare facilities, public health, emergency management, governmental and non-governmental stakeholders within Washoe County, the Reno and Carson City metropolitan areas, and adjoining jurisdictions are welcome to attend. Supporting exercise documentation will be provided after registration. The registration deadline is July 15, 2021.
