Description
The next installment in our monthly lecture and demonstration series featuring Master Plasterer Jeff Porée Join the Beauregard-Keyes house as we celebrate the craftsmanship and artistry of the master builders responsible for the architecture of New Orleans. We will be hosting a series of lectures and demonstrations over the course of the next six months highlighting trades such as plasterwork, ironwork, masonry, and carpentry. For the second event in our series we welcome Master Plasterer Jeff Porée. Having primarily learned the trade from his father and grandfather, and following an intensive 3 year apprenticeship, Mr. Porée expanded upon the Porée name in founding Porée Plastering in 1973. With over 50 years of experience in the craft, Mr. Porée has established himself as the preeminent specialty plastering contractor in the city of New Orleans. His notable works include, but are not limited to, our very own Beauregard-Keyes House, the famous Gallier Hall, the Cabildo and the Presbytere, the Historic New Orleans Collection, the Saenger Theatres, the New Orleans Museum of Art, the world famous Monteleone Hotel, Jackson Brewery, 1 Lee Circle, the New Orleans Convention Center, and the Lakefront Private Airport. His works are featured in numerous famous private family residences as well that include the Fisk-Hopkins House and the Huey P. Long Mansion. Mr. Porée and his works have frequently been profiled in publications and architectural books. He has been the recipient of numerous awards over the years, including being honored by the Governor’s office with the State of Louisiana’s Folk Art Award, signifying him as a “Louisiana Tradition Bearer” in recognition of his numerous contributions to the canon of architectural treasures in the City of New Orleans. Attendees for this lecture and demonstration must register in advance through Eventbrite. If you register, but are unable to attend, please cancel your ticket so others may join. Guests will be asked to remain socially distanced and are required to wear a mask. The lecture will also be live-streamed to our Facebook page. If you are unable to attend in person, watch from home!
