MINEOLA, NY — Nassau County Executive Laura Curran said Friday that New York should adhere to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's new mask guidelines allowing those fully vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine to go without masks. In a post on Facebook Friday, Curran said New York "should immediately" adopt the agency's guidance "that those who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 no longer need to wear masks or physically distance, indoors or outdoors in almost all circumstances." "The vaccine works and our residents need to return to normal life," she added. Cuomo on Thursday said his office was reviewing the CDC's policy. His press office did not respond to a request for comment on Curran's statements. Curran announced Thursday that seven in 10 Nassau residents over 18 have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. She said county officials are seeing the efficacy of the vaccine in real-time, noting that in the past four days no one has died due to COVID-19, and hospitalizations have declined 85 % since the beginning of the year.
