We’re inviting the entire community to show up & support a Benefit Concert honoring the lives and legacy of Dion Johnson of George Floyd. On May 25th 2021, it will have been exactly one year since the world was shaken by the horrific and very public murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis Police officer. The less public, yet equally impactful murder of Dion Johnson happened that same day by a Department of Public Safety Officer. Our community was rocked by the police violence happening in our own backyard and we took to the streets to demand justice for Dion Johnson and too many others. One year later, we’re inviting the entire community to show up and support a Benefit Concert celebrating the lives and legacies of Dion Johnson and George Floyd. Proceeds from the event will go to supporting the needs of Dion Johnson's family. In one year, the Johnson family has experienced extreme violence from the state, financial instability, homelessness, and Erma (Dion's mother) has lost 2 of her sons to the state. As we all know, last year Dion Johnson was murdered by a DPS officer while he was asleep in his car along side the HWY, and his murderer was let off without ever being held accountable by the county attorney's office. This family has been through hell and back over this past year. Erma's youngest son Donovan was incredibly close to Dion and has been struggling mentally and emotionally to cope with the loss of his older brother. To make matters worse, a couple months ago the state targeted Donovan who is now being held in jail on a 2 million dollar bond. While we know we will not be able to support the family with posting his bond, we are trying to raise enough money to assist with paying for a lawyer that can help bring Erma's youngest son home and potentially get him some much needed counseling services so he can begin to heal from all of the trauma the state has inflicted on this family. This event will be held at the Monarch Theatre from 6pm PST - 10pm PST. All are welcome! We will be celebrating the deep resilience and creativity of our community. There will local vendors to purchase goods from and food & drink offerings. In addition, there will be a raffle, live concert, artistic performances, photobooth, DJ, dancing and more! Ticket Level Description This is a fundraiser and we hope to collect an abundant amount to redistribute to Dion Johnson's Family.
