WOODBRIDGE, VA — A driver was arrested after police accused him of doing donuts at the intersection of Jefferson Davis Highway and River Ridge Boulevard in Woodbridge on Wednesday. Police claimed that the driver, Rodney Keith Crews, also drove into a police car. Around 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, May 12, an officer saw a 2006 Volvo S60 driving in circles, or "doing donuts," at the intersection of Jefferson Davis Highway and River Ridge Boulevard. The officer attempted to pull over the vehicle, according to a report from the Prince William County Police Department. Authorities said that the driver refused to pull over. To stop traffic from entering the area, the officer activated his emergency equipment and positioned his car in the intersection. A short time later, police said the Volvo drove into the parked police car. The driver of the Volvo, who police identified as Crews, was arrested. The officer who was in the police car reported minor injuries, according to the police report. The police department said Crews was taken to a hospital for "further processing and evaluation," but they did not disclose the extent of his injuries. During their investigation, authorities found a pit bull in the Volvo. Police said the dog was not harmed in the crash. Officers also claimed that Crews was under the influence of alcohol, and that he was driving on a suspended license. In 2019, Crews was convicted of driving without a license in Prince William General District Court. In November 2020, he was charged with speeding and driving without a license in Fredericksburg. After Wednesday's collision, Crews was charged with attempted malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer, DUI, unreasonable refusal, and cruelty to animals. His court date is scheduled for July 22, 2021.
