PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Prince George's County will participate in the World's Largest Tread-A-Thon. The event takes place Saturday, which is International Water Safety Day. May is National Water Safety Month. Workers from the Aquatics and Athletic Facilities Division of the Department of Parks and Recreation will partake in the event. They will tread water for thirty minutes. Residents can support the employees by donating at this link. The county has raised $1,163 so far. Half the proceeds go to the event organizer, the International Water Safety Foundation, for land-based education. The other half will help county workers fund certifications to become water safety instructors, pool operators and lifeguarding instructors. "Having certified staff continues our mission to operate safe aquatic facilities," stated Tara Eggleston Stewart, chief of the Aquatics and Athletic Facilities Division. "We hope the community will support our award-winning Aquatics staff." More information about the Aquatics & Athletic Facilities Division is posted here. Subscribe to your local Patch newsletter.
