Description

BETHEL, CT — Firefighters from both local companies were called to a blaze that devastated a home under renovation. Wednesday just before 6 p.m., the Bethel Fire Department and the Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Company were dispatched to Route 302 near the Newtown line for smoke coming from a house. The fire was upgraded to a working structure fire as the firefighters were en route. First responders found a home under construction in the midst of a "well-involved" fire, officials said. Firefighters called on tankers from Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company, West Redding Volunteer Fire Department, Newtown Hook & Ladder and Dodgingtown Volunteer Fire Company, No. 1. for assistance. The tankers were needed as there were no hydrants in the area. Firefighters had the fire under control within 30 minutes. No one was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. The cause is under investigation by the Bethel Emergency Management & Fire Marshal Office.
