MAHWAH, NJ — Over 90 percent of Mahwah seniors have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose, but the township has a ways to go before reaching the 70 percent goal set by the state. New data released by the New Jersey Department of Health breaks down how many people over 65 and over 18 have had at least one vaccine dose, and how many people in those groups are fully vaccinated. This first batch of data was updated on Friday, so it didn't include a category for children 12 and over, who can now receive the Pfizer vaccine after the Food and Drug Administration granted emergency use Monday. Bergen New Bridge Medical Center, in Paramus, and Holy Name Medical Center clinics in Teaneck and West New York, have either begun vaccinations on those over 12, or have made appointments available for them. Here's the data for Mahwah: Mahwah population with at least one dose: 94 percent of people over the age of 65 have received at least their first shot, while 60 percent of people over 18 have done the same. This means 50 percent of township residents have received at least one dose, according to NJDOH data.Mahwah population fully vaccinated: 87 percent of residents over the age of 65 have been fully vaccinated, while 51 percent of people 18 and over have done the same. In total, 42 percent of Mahwah's population is fully vaccinated, according to NJDOH data. Keep up to date with what's happening in your community by subscribing to your local Patch newsletter here.
