SAN RAFAEL, CA — The city of San Rafael has added acquired five hybrid vehicles to the Police Department's patrol fleet, city officials said in a news release.
The vehicles will replace older non-hybrid cars.
The Department of Public Works' staff will work with the Police Department to get the vehicles property equipped and placed into service, the agency said.
Nearly half the Police Department's fleet will be hybrids once the vehicles are in use according to the DPW.
The use of hybrid vehicles will save the city an estimated 30 percent in fuel costs, city officials said.
