Description
EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — A firefighter who fell through the floor of a burning building Monday morning was not injured, said East Providence Fire Chief Glenn Quick.
Firefighters from several departments responded to the fire that broke out at an empty building near the city's waterfront at approximately 10 a.m. and found the flames spreading quickly.
According to Quick, the high ceilings and dense smoke made it difficult for crews to get the fire under control.
The firefighter who fell from a hole in the second floor was evaluated at the scene and able to return to work immediately.
"The men and women of the East Providence Fire Department did a very good job, along with our partners from Barrington, Pawtucket and Providence," Quick told reporters.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation and no further information has been released.
