Description
The success of any group, either a sports team, a discussion group, or a group of business colleagues, depends on the leadership. As a leader, choosing the right way to lead your group is not easy. People have different personalities and opinions. Therefore, engaging your group members to contribute to decision-making will still leave some people unsatisfied. Hence, it is advisable to be flexible with the leadership style of each employee, treating them according to their unique character. This approach gives each employee the motivation to perform their roles effectively. As a leader, to understand which style to use in a specific situation, one needs to understand these styles. Bureaucratic Leadership Bureaucratic leadership involves the leaders laying out specific rules and regulations. The team members are then made to follow given directions strictly. The approach is necessary for work that requires safety or financial risks. There is no room for making mistakes in such situations since any error could put someone's life in danger. Therefore, the employees have to follow the rules without question. However, the bureaucratic leadership style would be ineffective in an organization relying on the employees' creativity. Servant Leadership Servant leadership is a leadership style in which the leader's goal is to serve. The leadership style involves the leader being a listener and someone willing to meet the team's needs. Servant leaders often lead by example. These leaders aim at increasing the productivity of their employees by creating a good working environment. However, such a style can be discouraged in situations where quick decisions are to be made. Democratic Leadership Democratic leadership style allows the team members to be part of the decision-making process. The technique involves the leader consulting the team members on their opinion and ideas. The democratic style highly motivates employees since they feel important and acknowledged. As a result, the technique leads to higher performance and commitment. The style is applicable if the team members are creative, innovative, and skilled at their roles. It also works well on independent people who embrace team-building. A leader should think critically and be intelligent enough to make the right decision. What leadership style a leader should use is a question asked by many. However, a good leader should apply different types of techniques according to the specific situation. This strategy gives business leaders the ability to get the best from their employees, thus leading to success.
