SONOMA COUNTY, CA — With the impending arrival of fire season, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office encouraged residents of its two contract cities, Windsor and Sonoma, as well as those who live in unincorporated areas of the county, to pick up their free evacuation tag Saturday during a drive-thru distribution day. The tags are a new tool to help the sheriff's office and partner agencies more quickly ensure that neighborhoods are evacuated during a wildfire or other large-scale disaster. "Residents tie the tag in a location that is highly visible when they evacuate," the sheriff's office said. "This saves time because first responders don't have to tie their own ribbon on the property and they can immediately check the next home. We've learned that seconds can count during evacuations and we are excited to bring this new time-saving tool to our residents. Each tag comes with a bilingual instruction flier, too." Saturday's drive-through distribution takes place 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at four locations: Sonoma County Fire District Station 3, 8600 Windsor Road in WindsorCalFire Healdsburg Station, 17475 Fredson Road in GeyservilleGeyserville Park N Ride on Remmel Road and state Highway 128 (one block east of Geyserville Avenue next to the railroad tracks)CalFire Sea Ranch Station, 960 Annapolis Road in Sea Ranch No appointment is necessary, and COVID-19 protocols are in place.
