FREMONT, CA — Police arrested a Hayward man in the sexual assault of a 67-year-old Fremont woman in front of her home late Thursday morning, police said.
The woman was transported to a trauma center for treatment of her injuries.
Alexander Lomax, 28, of Hayward was arrested in the attack on suspicion of sexual assault, elder abuse and battery. Additional charges may be considered as the investigation continues.
Officers stopped the attack at the victim's residence in the area of Grimmer Boulevard and Blacow Road.
It was the second such attack Thursday morning, police said. Police were also investigating an assault on a 57-year-old woman near Fremont Boulevard and Auto Mall Parkway, police said. Lomax is a suspect in that attack, police said.
The victim in the earlier attack said she was walking in the area when she was approached by a man who punched her and pushed to the ground, police said. The man then attempted to sexually assault her but was scared away by a witness before responding officers could arrive, police said.
Both victims are of Asian descent, but police said they do not consider the attacks to be hate crimes at this time.
Anyone with information about the attacks or any related incidents was asked to contact the Fremont Police Department's Investigative Unit at 510-790-6900. — Copyright © 2021 Bay City News, Inc.
