Join the Shorewood, IL Kiwanis By John Hackett   Fifteen years ago, a group of local business people and residents of Shorewood, Illinois gathered to find innovative ways to address a shared desire to be of service to the community. Thus...the Shorewood Kiwanis Club was born, with the mission of serving area children.  Fifteen years later, despite the challenges of a global pandemic, the Shorewood Kiwanis Club is still going strong, bonded in fellowship, to provide donations, supplies and volunteer work to agencies serving children and their families. www.shorewoodilkiwanis.org The Shorewood Kiwanis was formed by like-minded citizens who possessed a shared passion for serving the youth of the community. The group quickly grew and began providing valuable assistance to local children's service agencies.  Kiwanis International's mission is to help children around the world and provide support to local Kiwanis clubs. The Kiwanis International Organization welcomed the Shorewood, IL Kiwanis with open arms, as both groups place enormous emphasis upon serving the needs of children locally and worldwide. The Shorewood Kiwanis is dedicated to raising monetary funds to support their charitable giving efforts. The members pride themselves upon providing assistance to area children, building community business partnerships, lending a hand to youth support agencies and promoting fellowship among club members. Shorewood Kiwanis regularly participates in service projects to benefit area agencies, such as the Northern Illinois Food Bank facility in Joliet, where members volunteer their time packing food every month.   During the winter months, the Shorewood Kiwanis coordinates coat, glove, and sock donation drives via drop-off sites in the community. In 2020, the organization collected 1200 coats, gloves, and socks and distributed them to those in need.  The members have organized community fundraisers at local festivals to raise money for child service agencies in the Shorewood area, with 100% of all proceeds after costs, benefiting the agencies.  Partnerships with area businesses have been developed to gather school supplies for distribution to area school districts. Many members personally donated to purchase over 100 school bags over the past two years.  Members of the Shorewood Kiwanis regularly participate in activities at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.  Shorewood Kiwanis is always welcoming those whose hearts are rooted in serving children, while enjoying the fellowship and camaraderie of other adults, at the same time.
