Description

COBB COUNTY, GA — The first phase of plans to improve one of Cobb County's most trafficked intersections — at Windy Hill Road and Cobb Parkway — got the go-ahead from the Cobb County Board of Commissioners Tuesday. The county wants to build an overpass on Windy Hill to remove the signal intersection, and improve the flow of traffic. The project is in the early stages, and the total cost is unknown. Commissioners approved an agenda item that allows the county to start a planning study of the area in partnership with the Atlanta Regional Commission, the Marietta Daily Journal reported. The ARC will fund up to $320,000 for the study, and the county will cover the remaining $80,000 through its Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax money from 2016. Another project on Windy Hill Road is underway about two miles west of the intersection. The $42 million project — which is under construction — will widen Windy Hill and install express lanes.
