Position Summary: Join a seven-person crew for the summer working on trail and other conservation or preservation projects in Bandelier National Monument or Taos Pueblo! Serve your community as part of a team of other AmeriCorps members! * Tribal Members Highly Encouraged to Apply! Position Purpose: Crew members will perform manual labor on different projects, gaining valuable field experience and outdoor skills. All Corpsmembers will receive both personal and professional development training such as First Aid and CPR, financial management, public speaking skills, and much more. POSITION TYPE: Seasonal, full time, exempt SCHEDULE: Day crew - 40 hours of project work per week; Travel to/from work site daily; projects vary by location SALARY: Living stipend paid biweekly - Corpsmembers $840.00/every two weeks, Assistant Crew Leaders $880.00/every two weeks, Crew Leaders &1,040.00+ every two weeks. EDUCATION AWARD: These positions are also eligible for a $1,311.00 AmeriCorps education award upon successful completion of service. DATES: June 14th to August 6, 2021. LOCATION(S): Taos Pueblo OR Bandelier National Monument This position is supervised out of the Upper Rio Grande RMYC Office in Taos, New Mexico. Our office is located at 1203 King Drive # 3 (under COVID-19 protocols office is currently closed to the public). Participants must have reliable transportation according to their work schedule for the duration of the season. **Participants will attend occasional service/training days outside of this schedule, including weekends.** Benefits: This is a 300 hour AmeriCorps term of service, and members will receive a biweekly living stipend of $840.00 (before taxes), throughout the season, as well as a $1,311.00 Education Award upon successful completion of service. This award can be used to pay tuition at most colleges, universities, or trade schools, or to pay off student loans already acquired. Corpsmembers are eligible for health insurance. Timeline: June 14, 2021 – August 6, 2021 Full 8-week commitment (no vacations) Some community service days on weekends Responsibilities: Work hard on all projects as part of a team. Actively participate in daily check-ins and educational training sessions. Maintain safe work environment to ensure both physical and mental well-being. Comply with work standards set forth by project partners and Crew Supervisor. Maintain a positive and professional attitude. Be willing to reflect on your experience and share feedback in a group setting. Respect the natural environment and community resources. Develop obtainable goals for your transition into further education or employment. Comply with all RMYC and AmeriCorps rules and policies and not participate in any prohibited activities as described in the member contract. Qualifications for Corpsmember: 17 – 25 years old Strong work ethic Able to commit to entire term of service Able to work in a supervised environment Able to commute daily to crew meeting location in White Rock U.S. Citizen/National/Perm. Resident Already served an AmeriCorps term? Contact us. Qualifications for Assistant Crew Leader: 17-25 Knowledge of tool use and safety. Knowledge of issues facing the local community. Experience with, or an interest in, environmental or conservation related projects. Community volunteer experience or a history of service-based learning. Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks under adverse weather conditions Proficient driving 12-passenger vehicles. Previous leadership experience and a desire to build further leadership skills. Qualifications for Crew Leader: 21 years of age; valid, insurable driver’s license (without major citations). Experience working with youth ages 18- 25, preferably in a leadership, mentoring or instructional capacity. Ability to analyze projects with RMYC staff, determine capability of crew to accomplish work assignments and best work methods, appropriate tools, safety methods, and materials. Experience with building a positive group dynamic; confidence in working with diverse and challenging populations. Excellent public speaking skills to conduct training sessions and facilitate group discussions. Good attention to detail and ability to write accurate, thorough correspondence and reports. Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or higher medical certification or WFR certification within 90 days of hire. Physical/Environmental/Emotional Requirements: In performing the essential functions of this position, crew members will need to: Lift or move up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly. Frequently traverse uneven terrain, or sit in a vehicle/classroom. Read written materials, write, and communicate with others individually and in group settings.
