Description
Statewide Land Surveying, Inc. (SWLS), based in Gresham, OR, focuses on habitat restoration and environmental surveying in addition to lot and block, construction, and timberland surveying. SWLS is interviewing for an entry to intermediate level Survey and/or GIS Technician with a minimum of 3 years of experience, willing to work in both the office and the field applying modern survey technique utilizing Trimble Business Center, Carlson AutoCAD, various GIS programs, and Trimble Robotic instrumentation and GPS equipment. Ideal Candidate • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing • Represent SWLS in a professional manner • Willingness to work in a variety of outdoor environments and weather conditions • Work productively as part of a Field Crew and independently • Eager to learn and grow within the company and the survey profession • 3 years’ experience in data processing/management, GIS, and/or surveying • Proficient in Microsoft Office • Experience in drafting/GIS programs (i.e. AutoCAD, Carlson Survey, ArcGIS, QGIS, Global Mapper, Trimble Business Center, etc.) • Willing to travel in and out of state for 20% of their time Minimum Qualifications • A 2-4 year degree from an accredited University or College (may be waived with notable experience in a related field or industry) • Some experience with GIS or drafting programs (AutoCAD, Civil3D, ArcMap, QGIS, etc.) • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (notably Excel) • Advanced Mathematics courses (Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, etc.) • Strong organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills • Self-motivated with strong time management skills and ability to sit for long periods of time or work outdoors and walk as needed • Quickly and effectively learn new tasks and technologies Requirements • Ability to be around bees • Ability to learn quickly • Ability to utilize hand tools such as hammers, machetes, and 18” chainsaw • Carry tripod and backpack over terrain typical of Pacific Northwest • Pass a drug test • Proper use of personal protective equipment (as required) • Regular, punctual attendance • Swim, work at heights, perceive color • Spend a few days to a week or more out of town (occasionally) • Valid driver’s license • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others Description of Position The position of the GIS/Surveying Technician is a variable role that will assist in project coordination and planning, survey drafting (in Carlson Survey embedded with AutoCAD), data management, data processing, and hydrographic/conventional surveying. The applicant can expect to work both as a field and office technician (with their primary role being in the office) and will travel up to 20% of the time.
