STARKE, FL — After a four-day, nationwide search, members of the U.S. Marshals Service's Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force took Farrakhan Muhammad into custody without incident. On Saturday just before 5 p.m., two women and a 4-year-old girl were shot in Times Square in New York City after a dispute between several men turned violent. All three people survived the shootings. The 4-year-old had surgery after being shot in the leg and has been released from the hospital. Muhammad, 31, was apprehended Wednesday while eating in a vehicle in a McDonald's parking lot in Starke. He reportedly fled to Starke where his girlfriend's family lives. He was spotted Tuesday at a Walmart in Fayetteville, North Carolina, buying supplies for his girlfriend's two dogs. Members of the Citrus County Sheriff's Office assigned to the fugitive task force took a photo of Muhammad as he was waiting to be taken to jail. "Arrests such as these are the precise reason why the Citrus County Sheriff's Office partners with federal agencies like the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force," said Citrus County Sheriff Mike Prendergast. "Even though the crimes committed by Muhammad occurred more than a thousand miles away, his flight to Florida was thwarted by members of Citrus County Sheriff's Office and the marshals task force."
