STAMFORD, CT—A Stamford man who was arrested in connection to a deadly shooting that occurred on April 18 now faces a murder charge, Stamford police said Thursday in a news release. Everett Brown, 21, was arrested last month shortly after a shooting at 600 West Ave. that left 19-year-old Courtney Lewis dead and two others injured. Brown was charged then with unlawful discharge of a firearm, reckless endangerment in the 1st degree, carrying a pistol without a permit, risk of injury, and carrying a dangerous weapon. Brown was being held on a court set bond of $1.5 million. On Thursday, police said that Brown was formerly arrested at the Stamford courthouse, and now faces a murder charge and two counts of assault in the first degree. The latest arrest attaches an additional $1 million bond, and Brown remains in custody. According to police, the shooting occurred in a parking lot after a dispute broke out at 600 West Ave. Lee was shot in the chest and taken to Stamford Hospital where he later died. A 17-year-old was shot in the leg and a 33-year-old was shot in the chest. The Stamford Advocate said Lee was a standout football player at Stamford High School, where he graduated last year. "We've been in continual communication with the family [of Courtney Lee] throughout this process. We're happy this investigation moved rapidly for them, and we hope this arrest is able to provide them some relief," Lt. Tom Scanlon told Patch on Thursday. "They're going through a very tough time.
