Press release from the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce : Colleen Ensor, 05/13/2021 Carroll County Public Schools middle and high school students recently participated in a rewarding service-learning opportunity in collaboration with Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. (BSMA). Students created hundreds of cards and care packages for service members, while earning nearly 10,000 service-learning hours. The project began when Diné Mongold, service-learning coordinator for Westminster High School, received a proposal this March from BSMA and began recruiting students for the volunteer effort. Word of this service-learning opportunity spread quickly and it was expanded to other middle and high schools. Cards and letters filled with heart-warming messages of appreciation, stories, jokes, and intricate artwork were transported to the America's Warrior Care Package Project organization for distribution. Many service members treasure these items for a lifetime. Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. (BSMA) is a national non-profit organization that supports active military, veterans, and their families. Members are mothers of the men and women, who are serving or have been honorably discharged, from the Armed Forces of the United States.
