ARLINGTON, VA — Wakefield High School was temporally placed under "secure the building status" on Tuesday, as Arlington County Police investigated a report of a student wearing what appeared to be a bulletproof vest and making threats of violence against others off of school grounds, according to a police release.
Officers responded around 11:45 a.m., on Tuesday, to call from a Wakefield High School staff member, who said a student was involved in an altercation with several other people off of school property. Police say the student was wearing what appeared to be a bulletproof vest, and when he left the area, he implied threats of violence against others.
The student was seen returning to the area in a vehicle, according to police. With the help of the SRO Supervisor, officers located the student next to a park vehicle in the vicinity of S. Frederick Street and S. George Mason Drive. Police detained the student and two occupants of the vehicle without incident. The officers observed a ballistic vest carrier inside the vehicle, which they then search and found a firearm under the driver's seat.
Throughout the police's investigation of the incident, Wakefield High School was placed under "secure the building status."
ACPD charged Michael Davis, 40, with carrying a concealed weapon and convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He was taken to the Arlington County Detention Facility, where he is being held without bond.
