Vehicle thefts in Denver's metro area have surged since the pandemic hit, according to a report by Colorado's Metropolitan Auto Theft Task Force.
Compared to 2019, vehicle thefts rose in Denver's metro area by 55 percent in 2020, the task force said. An average of 74 vehicles have been stolen each day in Denver's metro area so far this year — more than double the average daily number stolen in 2019.
The car you own may determine your risk of auto theft, according to the report.

Chevrolet Silverados have also been the most stolen vehicle so far in 2021 across Colorado, according to the report.
The task force estimated that vehicle thefts have cost Colorado more than $77 billion so far this year.
