AUSTIN, TX — Have you dreamed of becoming a police officer? The Austin Police Department is seeking applicants this week for its 144th cadet class.
The last day to send an application is Friday. The training academy is expected to start on June 7, police officials said Wednesday.
The training academy will feature a new curriculum and will expand community engagement programming, officials said.
"We are excited to welcome an outstanding group of cadets to the 144th academy class in a few short weeks," said Assistant Chief James Mason. "Our instructors have worked diligently to implement a new adult learning curriculum geared toward enhancing community engagement, equity and inclusion. This exciting new approach to cadet training builds resilience and represents the feedback we received from the Austin community."
After applications are submitted online, applicants will need to choose one testing session from Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
All testing sessions begin at 7 a.m. at the Recruiting Office, located at 1520 Rutherford Lane Bldg. 3.
