Door Wall Repair: Repair doors and walls within the Athletic Department. This work requires skills in carpentry, plastering, and painting. Assess damage and discuss with supervisor to figure out the best course of action to return the damaged components to their original condition and complete the repair. Maintain Various Equipment and Machinery: Maintain equipment by implementing the accurate preventive schedule for equipment and machinery as designed by the supervisor. This includes, but is not limited to, hand power tools, hand tools, and golf carts. Determine when an item should be replaced, in order to improve dependability and consistent operations. Maintenance procedures include greasing fittings, replacing worn or broken parts, checking/maintaining accurate fluid levels, and rebuilding equipment when necessary. Recommendations on whether to repair or replace a piece of equipment can have significant budgetary impacts and would also include the prioritization of replacement of older equipment. Repairs to Building Systems: This position will need to prioritize the renovation projects and recommend a course of action to supervisors regarding major projects and renovations. After receiving a customer work request from the supervisor, this position will assist in diagnosing and identifying the problem, accurate course of action and schedule and completing the repair. An example application of this method includes repairing a leaking pipe. This position would receive the work request, identify the source, seek custodial support, and make the repair required which may include rebuilding the system to avert future problems. The ability to complete this task requires knowledge of plumbing methods. Manage and Utilize Work Order System: Renovating Building Systems. Renovate building components and systems by assessing and interpreting user needs, determine the appropriate course of action and complete the project. This position will also reconstruct furniture systems, requiring knowledge in carpentry to complete the task. When receiving the work request from the supervisor, this position will discuss the request with the customer, design and identify the method to accomplish the alteration in the cabinet, i.e. cut to the accurate size and shape, repair the plastic laminate top, prepare the surface, and finish the surface to match the existing piece. Specific examples of decision making would include assist in determining the viability of the project and best methods based on established carpentry techniques, matching finishes to existing finishes, and completing the alteration on schedule. Construction of a storage closet is an example of this duty. This project would require carpentry, painting, and plastering skills, matching the building components to the existing construction, i.e. framing the walls, using wood or metal studs, hanging gypsum board on the studs, installing a door frame and hanging the door, installing a lockset as the application dictates, and taping, finishing, and painting the walls and door. Special Events: Assist in coordination of special events by assessing the needs, setting up as well as operating the event accordingly. In performing this task, this position draws on their experience, as well as the experience of others, to formulate an effective solution to the problem of creating functional and efficient gate entry system. Problems which could be encountered include availability of the necessary components, which could lead to unplanned design changes. An example would include the construction of a temporary entry gating system which allows for the queuing of patrons and ticket taking for a football game, but the needs of special events vary greatly in the scope and often require last minute alterations to allow an event to work. Communicate/Coordinate Outside Contractors: When assessing the damage to a partition wall, one would draw on their past experience, as well as consider life cycle and overall costs, before communicating with supervisor to determine course of action. This position would be responsible to work with a contractor, in the absence of the supervisor, to assess the condition of a building component, such as a room partition wall, and choose to make a repair, or replace portions of the wall. Communicate and lead all aspects of work performed by outside contractors and University personnel in performance of duties, insuring quality workmanship and completion on schedule with instruction/guidance from supervisor.
