CLEVELAND — NBC's Nightly News host Lester Holt will visit Cleveland on May 19. Holt is traveling across the nation reporting on how different regions are reopening during the COVID-19 pandemic. The "Across America" series will start in Florida before traveling through Kentucky, Ohio, Washington and California. During the "Across America" broadcasts, Holt will engage with local communities about how the virus impacted their businesses, schools, sports and culture. He will also investigate escalating tensions between police and communities of color, and the growing homelessness epidemic, according to a release from NBC. On May 19, when the broadcast originates from Cleveland, Holt will spotlight the city's summer school program, provide an exclusive tour inside a Purell factory, and look at how GOJO, makers of Purell, have overhauled their operations since the pandemic began. NBC's local affiliate, WKYC Cleveland, will participate in the "Across America" segments, contributing on-the-ground reports. Holt's visit follows Al Roker's trip to Cleveland this week. Roker, a former WKYC reporter and longtime host of "Today," returned to the shores of Lake Erie to host live segments and participate in a series on the nation's reopening.
