SWAT Team Arrests Battery Suspect In Beverly Hills

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — Beverly Hills police took a battery suspect into custody late Wednesday night, after a tense, hours-long standoff resulting in a SWAT team. The situation began Wednesday night at around 7:45 p.m. when Beverly Hills officers responded to a battery call at the 100 block of N. Stanley Drive, near Wilshire Boulevard. The situation quickly escalated, and a SWAT team was called in. Footage from the scene shows a man breaking through glass to climb out of the window after police deployed tear gas inside the home. An officer can be heard on a loudspeaker telling the suspect, "Your mother is concerned about your safety," according to ABC7 News. The suspect was taken into custody just before midnight, police said. They have not provided further details on the suspect, the charges, or what caused the SWAT team to be called in. One victim was transported to the hospital in unknown condition. SWAT teams have been called into Beverly Hills often in recent months. In April, much of the area was closed around the Downtown Triangle after a suspect crashed a car police say he stole into another car, and refused to get out. In March, police arrested a 32-year-old Pleasanton man who barricaded himself inside a garage connected to a home near Beverly Gardens Park and tried to start a fire inside, before a crisis management team managed to get him out. —City News Service contributed to this report.
