WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — Numbers regarding the coronavirus continue to be good over an extended period of time in Westchester. That was the news Westchester County Executive George Latimer led with during a briefing Thursday. He said that, to date, there have been 128,703 positive cases of the coronavirus in the county. As of Thursday, there are 1,182 active cases of infection. Latimer said that is about 170 less than Monday's numbers. A week ago, active cases were 1,742. Three weeks ago, they were 3,714. Only 79 positive cases were reported since Wednesday. "We've gone a number of weeks with less than 100 cases a day," Latimer said. COVID-19-related hospitalizations continue to decrease, he said. One week ago there were 114 hospitalizations, and the number is down to 76 now. There were four fatalities over the past seven days, Latimer said. The total number of deaths to date is 2,445. "We see no reason they shouldn't drop further," due to the rate of vaccinations, he said. Recent numbers show that more than 442,000 Westchester residents are fully vaccinated, meaning that two weeks have passed since the final dose of whichever vaccine they received. Fifty-five percent of Westchester's population of about 1 million have received at least one dose of the vaccine, Latimer said. He said those numbers should continue to grow now that anyone age 12 and older is eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine.
